Julius S. Lutz

Julius S. Lutz, 89, of Collins passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023 in Gowanda. He was born on September 12, 1933 in Lackawanna, the son of the late Frank and Rose (Sorka) Lutz.

Mr. Lutz was a proud Korean War veteran, serving as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He later was employed at Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna as a A-rated boilermaker for 31 years. He also owned and operated Shorty's Tavern in Collins for 10 years.

He was a member of Gowanda American Legion Post #409 and Gowanda VFW #5007, where he was active with the color guard. Also, he was a member of Phoenix Lodge and Gowanda Shrine Club, Slovenian Club, Jolly Jacks Social Club in Blasdell, attended St. Joseph's RC Church and was a avid Buffalo Bills fan.

Mr. Lutz is survived by a son, Steven Lutz of Gowanda; four daughters, Karen (Dennis) Jensen of Collins, Rose Marie Troidl of Gowanda, Mary (late Michael) Grimm of Gowanda and Sandra (David) of North Collins; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Lutz of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Alberta Britt in 2007; a son, James Lutz; four brothers, Richard, Frank, Alex and John; and four sisters, Rose, Josephine, Julia and Anna.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 17 at 10:00 AM from St. Joseph's RC Church in Gowanda. Burial with Military Honors will be in Collins Center Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Collins Volunteer Fire Department.

Arrangements are by the Mentley Funeral Home, 105 East Main Street in Gowanda.
