Elaine J. Lulas, 85 of Route 62 passed away Friday morning, Aug. 20, 2021, in Dunkirk surrounded by family .

Elaine was June 23, 1936, in Ellicottville , N.Y., the daughter of Erwin Horning and Martha ( Morvan Horning – Estus)

Elaine retired from the Gowanda Psychiatric Center in 1991 after over 36 years of state service. At the time of her retirement she was a registered nurse.

Elaine’s memberships past and present included the Slovenian Club, the ladies auxiliary of the VFW Post 5007 and the Moose Lodge No. 1382, all of Gowanda. She enjoyed spending time with family, watching sports, playing bingo and euchre. She will be remembered as someone who loved her children and grandchildren very much and wanted the best for them. And someone who even through some struggles in life loved her family and loved life.

Survivors include twp sons: Robert (Michelle) Frederickson of Jamestown and Gary (Bonnie) Frederickson of Dunkirk. Elaine is also survived by grandchildren: Nicole Frederickson, Raleigh, N.C., and Ashley Frederickson, Greenville, S.C.; along with stepchildren David, Donald, Valerie and Edward Lulas; as well as nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce A. Frederickson (1967); her husband, David Lulas (1979); along with three brothers: Edwin, Alfred and Herbert Horning; and three sisters-n-law: Katherine, Evelyn and Jan Horning.

Friends may call at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME, 44 Center St., Gowanda on Monday, Aug. 23 from 4-7 p.m. (masks required if not fully vaccinated) where funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021 at 11 a.m., from the funeral home. Interment to follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Gowanda.
