Gordon E. Ackler
Jul. 25, 1937 - Jul. 15, 2022

Gordon E. Ackler, 84, of Stafford Road, formerly of Armes Court, Gowanda, passed away Friday afternoon July 15, 2022 surrounded by family.

He was born in Salamanca, N.Y., the son of Roland and Marguerite (Brown) Ackler, July 25, 1937.

Gordon married Betty Randall at the Presbyterian Church in Ellicottville, Nov. 28, 1959. Betty passed away Jan.3, 2020.

A safety officer, Gordy retired from the former JN Adam Developmental Center. He was well known in town for his lawnmower and small engine repairing he did from home on Armes Court for over 35 years, Acklers Lawnmowing Service.

A dedicated and loyal member of the Gowanda Volunteer Fire Department, Gordon served as past chief and up until 2019 was president of Aerial Ladder, he was also past president of the company, served on the departments board of directors and was a familiar presence with GVFD fire police.

In their younger years Betty and Gordy enjoyed and were involved with the Snow Drifters Snowmobile Club and the Zoar Valley Riders. Gordon was a Boy Scout troop leader, Troop 151 and was awarded the Boy Scouts of America Order of the Arrow. He dedicated countless hours and years to the Boy Scouts teaching and mentoring. Gordy loved to hunt, he also loved steam trains. He and Betty visited all lower 48 states of the United States.

Gordon was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gowanda.

Survivors include a son, David (Kathy) Ackler of Gowanda: two daughters: Deborah (Dwayne) Stapleton of Gowanda, and Denise (Earl Straker) Ackler of East Elmhurst, N.Y.; three grandchildren: Elizabeth Myers, Katelyn (Kyle Genovese) Stapleton and Kevin Stapleton; one great-granddaughter, Paisley Genovese; along with nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, Betty (of nearly 61 years) Gordon was preceded in death by a grandson, Shawn Myers (April 27, 2017); and a sister, Gloria West.

Friends may call at the Gowanda Volunteer Fire Dept. Hall (230 Aldrich St. Gowanda) from 11 a.m.-noon on Friday, July 22, 2022 where Fire Dept. Chaplain Travis Grubbs will have prayers following the noon visitation .
